Scott named Chief Operating Officer at GHS Medical Center

AUGUSTA, Ga.Steven M. Scott has been named Chief Operating Officer at Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center, which includes oversight of the daily operations of the 478-bed adult hospital and the 154-bed Georgia Health Sciences Children’s Medical Center.

“Scott has a proven track record in managing clinical operations management at academic health centers. We are pleased to have him bring his knowledge of what it takes to manage complex missions that involve research, education and clinical care to Georgia Health Sciences,” said David S. Hefner, Executive Vice President of Clinical Affairs at Georgia Health Sciences University and CEO of Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center.

Previously, Scott served as Executive Administrator for Professional Services at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. Prior to that, he served as Vice President, Facilities and Ancillary Services for the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County – Wishard Health Services in Indianapolis. Additionally, he worked as an administrator at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and a faculty practice director at Columbia University – Harlem Medical Center.

He possesses a keen understanding of academic medicine, and I’m confident the Georgia Health Sciences enterprise will thrive under his leadership.”

Scott earned a master’s degree in Public Health in Health Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems. He recently served on the board of the Pacific Northwest Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. Other memberships include: National Association of Health Services Executives, Oregon Society of Healthcare Executives, Big Brothers Big Sisters Pacific Northwest, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
